Le Show

Monday, 6 to 7pm

Hosted by Harry Shearer, Vogue magazine describes Le Show as “wildly clever, iconoclastic stew of talk, music, political commentary, readings of inadvertently funny public documents or trade magazines and scripted skits.”

Rebel Blues

Friday, 9 to 12pm

How many times has a song changed you? How many times has a favorite album shifted your mood, brought clarity, cleared the energetic vibes in the room, made you cry, made you burst into song or dance your blues away?

Rebel Blues focuses on “Word, Sound & Power” of conscience music lyrics, poetry, spoken word and/or rap. Conscious Music Movement concentrates on the lyrical motivation not the style. It’s the messages in the lyrics which offer something different to the typical “I have a broken heart” scenario or the “I think you’re sexy” type pop songs. Conscious Music is real, it’s human, it asks the listener to think, invites evolution and an opening of the spiritual heart. Conscious songs instill a positivity and deeper awareness that can be engaged with in our lives. Rebel Blues features artist from the world music genre today and remembering the pioneers from the past.

Artists are asking the big questions about life, death, spirituality, humanity and the universe, and are responding to what’s happening in our world currently. Through their music the artists featured on this program are reflecting and sharing hope, peace, unity and inspiration. In the last century many songwriters have put their positive wisdom in their lyrics, such as Abbey Lincoln, Nina Simone, Hugh Masakela, Harry Belafonte, Bob Marley, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Judy Mowatt, Odetta, Gil Scott-Heron, the Last Poets, Joni Mitchell and Buffy Sainte-Marie. These artists create(d) music and songs that help inspire others to live more consciously. Sista Friend, your host, entertains with history footnotes and social theme, while letting the music tell the story.

Atenea Americana

Monday, 6 to 8am

Atenea in Spanish means The House of Culture. This name is inspired by the Goddess of war and culture, Athena (in Spanish Atenea). In many hispanic countries there is a space called Atenea or Ateneo. This place is normally a hub for culture, where people meet to enjoy, get informed and discuss matters of culture. This show represents that – the aims to join people though culture. This program is produced by the Stanford Hispanic Broadcasting network, a cultural bilingual network showcasing the world of Latinos and Hispanics. We are an independent group, that produce audio content from the heart of Silicon Valley, in California to the world.
